Obama Stimulus Package
President Barack Obama proposed a stimulus package of $800 billion before he even entered the white house. The proposed package consisted of $300 billion in tax cuts and $500 billion in spending.
The stimulus encourages us to spend money; like everything will keep spinning round as long as televisions and toasters are purchased. Sound familiar G.W. However, consumption can only happen after you produce something.
The government should encourage us to live within or means by not giving us borrowed or newly created money. We should be encouraged to produce goods by deregulating industry and protecting people’s rights to produce, keep, and trade their products.
Tax cuts and stimulus packages are pragmatic solutions to a larger problem. For over a century we have unwittingly been voting away our individual rights in an attempt to create a more prosperous society. But in fact, individual rights are the foundation of a prosperous society. Real or potential job loss is no reason to violate the rights of others no matter how pervasive the recession.
As humans we gain values based on our ability to think and act. We must be free to think and act if we are to prosper. The property, inventions, and money we earn must be protected so people can benefit from their actions. The human mind evolved to deal with the challenges inherent to life and given the freedom to act, all obstacles can be overcome.
